BHOPAL: A collision on a killer hillock on Tuesday morning turned fatal for a groom and his seven-member wedding procession en route to his wedding on Tuesday morning, also killing a container driver on the Agra-Mumbai national highway (NH-3) in Madhya Pradesh.

The accident happened on the Ganpati Ghat hillock in Dhamnod of Dhar district at around 7.30 am, when the SUV with the marriage party from Sehore district was heading towards Manawar in the district.

The SUV was moving between a truck in front and a container at the back when the latter suddenly hit the SUV in high velocity at a blind turn on the hillock.

The SUV got sandwiched between the two, instantly killing all eight members of the marriage procession as well as the container driver.

The deceased included the 25-year-old groom Mukesh Jat and his relatives, while the container driver was identified as Suresh.

Two injured persons were admitted to a hospital in adjoining Indore by the Dhamnod police, police said.

The impact tore the SUV and the container apart and two cranes along with local residents worked to extricate the disfigured bodies from the mangled vehicles.

The Ganpati Ghat hillock which falls on the junctions of Indore, Dhar and Khargone districts is considered a killer hillock, as hundreds have died in accidents there since 2008, when the NH-3 became operational.
