MUMBAI: Shyamvar Rai, accused-turned-approver in the Sheena Bora murder case, today denied before the trial court here that he received Rs 5 lakh after the crime from the other accused.

Rai is currently being cross-examined by prime accused Indrani Mukerjea's lawyer Sudeep Passbola.

Passbola claimed that Rai received Rs 5 lakh after Sheena's murder in April 2012, and he bought a plot of land in Madhya Pradesh with the money.

However, Rai denied that he received money.

Rai also denied Passbola's allegation that he had not conducted any reconnaissance of the place (in Raigad district) where Sheena's body was burnt.

The defence lawyer claimed that Rai's statement that he had conducted reconnaissance of the area at Indrani's behest, prior to the murder, was false. He already knew that area very well because he had travelled there many times, the lawyer aruged.

Sheena Bora's murder came to light in August 2015 after Rai, arrested in another case, spilled the beans and the Mumbai Police arrested Indrani, her former husband Sanjeev Khanna and Rai in the case.

According to the CBI, Indrani and others hatched the conspiracy to kill Sheena, her daughter from earlier relationship, over a financial dispute.
