PANIPAT: In a latest development, the sister of murdered Harshita Dahiya on Wednesday accused her jailed husband, an alleged gangster, of killing the Haryanvi singer.

“Harshita was killed by my husband Dinesh because she was a witness in my mother's murder case,” said Lata, sister of Dahiya.

The Indian Express quoted Panipat SP Rahul Sharma as saying that the police suspected involvement of the deceased’s brother-in-law Dinesh, who is a gangster and is currently lodged in Tihar jail.

“He is brother-in-law of the folk singer shot dead in Panipat. Earlier, she had accused him of raping her. He is also accused in her mother’s murder in 2014 which Harshita was the prime witness to. But we are not ruling out other theories,” Sharma said.

The 22-year-old local singer and dancer had accused her brother-in-law Dinesh of raping her and had filed a complaint against him in this regard.

A day after Harshita Dahiya was shot dead by unidentified assailants in Panipat district, hospital authorities said there were at least seven bullet wounds on her body. News agency ANI quoted Dr Rajeev Maan as saying:“Seven-eight bullet wounds on body, three bullets recovered. Rest bullets passed across the body. No other injury mark."

The Panipat Police on Wednesday began investigations. The body of the deceased singer has been sent to the mortuary at a general hospital.

Reportedly, the singer, who specialised in Haryana folk songs, had recently posted a mobile video on YouTube where she is seen saying that she wasn't afraid of the death threats she has been receiving from certain artistes from the Haryana entertainment industry.

This is not the first time that Harshita has received life threats and she had disclosed the same on social media earlier too.

In the video clip that emerged, Dahiya is reportedly seen talking about the threats she received after her previous video.

“Some people from our industry, our own artists from Haryana are threatening me over phone to come to a compromise and delete the video, otherwise I will face consequences. I have not said anything wrong. Despite this, people are threatening me. I am not afraid of anybody. I will not delete our video… do whatever you want and I will not delete my live video. I am a Jaatni belonging to Jaat community) and I am not afraid of death,” Harshita was seen saying in the video.

There is no information on whether she had alerted the police or not.

Dahiya was shot dead on Tuesday by unknown assailants when she was returning to Delhi after a show at a village in Panipat. Around 4 pm, two men in a black car allegedly overtook her car and blocked it.
