Pakistani drug smuggler shot dead on Indo-Pak border

As the smugglers were challenged, they opened fire on the BSF and STF then in retaliation the security personnel fired and thus one Pakistani smuggler was killed the other fled back.

CHANDIGARH: A drug smuggler from Pakistan was shot dead and 10 kg of narcotics, arms and ammunition were seized from the deceased on the Indo-Pak International Border in Punjab.

Sources said that this incident took place in the wee hours today morning near the Barreke post in Ferozepur sector on the international border two Pakistani smugglers approached stealthily towards the fence after crossing the IB into the Indian territory, they were told to stop by the Border Security Force (BSF) and the Special Task Force of the Punjab Police  as they had laid an ambush to intercept them.

As the smugglers were challenged, they opened fire on the BSF and STF then in retaliation the security personnel fired and thus one Pakistani smuggler was killed the other fled back towards Pakistani territory taking the cover of darkness said sources.

Besides the body of the smuggler, 10 kg of heroin, one Chinese pistol and a magazine, 17 bullets, Pakistani currency worth Rs110 and two indian mobile phones, three Pakistani mobile phone SIM cards, a plastic pipe and some other items were recovered said sources.

In another incident a 30-year-old Pakistani national from Lahore was arrested late night from the Maharsona border post in the Fazilka district of the state. He was questioned by the security agencies.
