BEGUSARAI: A day after Supreme Court expressed its annoyance over the delay in arrest of Mr Chandrashekhar Verma, husband of former Bihar welfare minister Manju Verma, in connection with a case of Arms Act lodged against him, Begusarai police stepped up the process to attach assets of their residence in Arjun Tola locality of the district.

The Apex Court, during hearing the case of sexual abuse of more than 34 girls in state-funded shelter home based in Muzaffarpur which was being run by Brajesh Thakur, had expressed annoyance yesterday over the delay in arrest of Mr Verma.

Ms Manju Verma had resigned as Welfare Minister after the incident of sexual abuse of girls in shelter home which had come to light following social audit conducted by a team of Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS).

The leader of the opposition Tejaswi Prasad Yadav had alleged that Mr Verma was also involved in sexual abuse of girls in Muzaffarpur shelter home.

Begusarai Police superintendent Awkash Kumar said here today that assets of residence of Ms Verma would be attached soon on the basis of the directive of a local court where her husband did not appear in connection with a case of Arms Act pending against him.

The court had issued the attachment order when Mr Verma did not appear despite issuance of summons and warrant against him in this connection, he added.

The residence of Ms Verma was raided by sleuths of CBI in connection with the probe of sexual abuse of more than 34 girls in a shelter home based in Muzaffarpur.

The Shelter home owned by Brajesh Thakur was getting aid from the welfare department of Bihar government and Ms Verma was welfare minister when the incident had come to light.

Ms Verma had resigned after much hue and cry was raised over the incident of sexual abuse in government-aided added shelter home during her tenure as Minister in Nitish Kumar government.

When CBI had conducted raids on August 17 at the residence of the former minister, located in Arjun Tola locality in Begusarai district, 40 live cartridges were recovered from there.

Neither Ms Verma nor her husband was present at their residence when CBI had conducted the raid.

A case was lodged against them in connection with the recovery of 40 live cartridges from their residence.
