Lalu Prasad Yadav's son Tej Pratap to marry former Bihar CM's granddaughter with MBA degree

Jailed RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav’s elder son and former Bihar health minister Tej Pratap Yadav is set to marry a former Bihar chief minister’s granddaughter, Aishwarya Rai.

PATNA: Jailed RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav’s elder son and former Bihar health minister Tej Pratap Yadav is set to marry a former Bihar chief minister’s granddaughter, Aishwarya Rai, who holds an MBA degree.

Rai’s father, former Bihar minister Chandrika Rai, on Friday disclosed that the match has been made and that the wedding would be held in Patna. The tentatively fixed date is May 12, said RJD sources. Lalu, currently under treatment at AIIMS in New Delhi, would seek parole to attend the ceremonies, they added.

With the selection of a bride for Tej Pratap finally made, his mother and former Bihar chief minister Rabri Devi’s search for a “suitable, cultured” elder daughter-in-law has ended. Aishwarya Rai is the granddaughter of Daroga Prasad Rai, who served as Bihar’s tenth chief minister between February and December, 1970.

When the talk of wedding plans for Tej Pratap and his younger brother, Bihar Opposition leader Tejashwi Yadav, had reached a high last year, Rabri Devi had disclosed her preferences. “I do not want girls who frequent cinema halls and malls as my daughters-in-law. I want such girls who can be capable homemakers and will respect elders,” she had said.

Tej Pratap, 29, is a first-time MLA who served as Bihar’s health minister for 20 months. He studied only up to class XII and ran a motorbike showroom before entering politics in th e2015 Assembly polls. Aishwarya, 25, had her graduation from Miranda House College in Delhi and then got an MBA degree from Amity University, Noida, said sources.

“Talks on the marriage proposal began after Lalu was shifted from the jail in Ranchi to a hospital there. The proposal was finalised after he was shifted to AIIMS in New Delhi,” said a source close to the Yadav family.

The 69-year-old Lalu, who has been convicted in four fodder scam cases, is “very happy” about the match because Daroga Prasad Rai was a fellow CM of Bihar like him. “He likes the fact that Aishwarya’s grandfather was Bihar’s first Yadav CM,” added the source.

“Marriages are made in heaven. We were planning to disclose the wedding plans a few days later, but the media found out about it much earlier,” said Chandrika Rai, all smiles. Aishwarya, his elder daughter, has a younger sister and a younger brother.
