NEW DELHI: BJP MP Varun Gandhi has requested Prime Minister Narendra Modi to accept the farmers' demand for MSP guarantee for crops. The MP from Pilibhit in poll-bound Uttar Pradesh said till this demand is not met, their movement will not end.

"I welcome the announcement of the withdrawal of the three farm laws. It is my humble request that the demand for a law on MSP and other issues must also be decided upon immediately, so that our farmers can return home after ending their agitation," Gandhi said through Twitter.

Thanking the PM for the decision to repeal the three laws, Gandhi added, "More than 700 farmer brothers and sisters have been martyred in this movement... Had this decision been taken earlier, innocent lives would not have been lost."

On the issue of statutory guarantee of MSP, Gandhi said, "This movement will not end without the resolution of this demand and there will be widespread anger amongst them (farmers) which will continue to emerge in one form or the other."

"The heartbreaking incident (Lakhimpur Kheri) is a blemish on our democracy. It is my request to you that appropriate and strict action is taken against the Union minister connected to this incident so that there is a fair enquiry," he wrote.

Earlier, Varun had raised the issue of killing of farmers in Lakhimpur Kheri and said there was an attempt to turn the case into a "Hindu vs Sikh battle". It is to be seen how BJP reacts to his stand and comments.
