MP: Eight-year-old boy who fell into borewell five days back dies, body recovered

"The boy was rescued around 5 am on Saturday. However, he was declared dead," State Home Guard Commandant S R Azami, who was engaged in the rescue operation, said.

BHOPAL: A mammoth 84-hour battle to rescue a 6-year-old boy alive from a 400 ft deep borewell in Betul district of Madhya Pradesh was lost on Saturday.

The incident had happened in Mandawi village under Athner area of Betul district where class II student, Tanmay Sahu, was playing hide and seek with his sister and other children when he fell into the borewell around 5pm on Tuesday. A rescue operation was launched with 61 rescuers, including NDRF and around 200 villagers from Mandawi and four adjoining villages.

Led by NDRF, the rescue team managed to reach to the boy, at around 3 am on Saturday and ultimately succeeded in retrieving him out by 5 am. He was rushed from the Mandwi village to the Betul District Hospital, where the doctors officially declared him brought dead. According to the Betul additional district collector, the body’s autopsy revealed that the minor had suffered chest congestion and multiple rib injuries. CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan announced Rs 4 lakh assistance for the bereaved.
