CHANDIGARH: Ever since Punjab rapper Shubhdeep Singh a.k.a Sidhu Moose Wala was shot dead in a moving car on May 29 last, there was speculation that actor Salman Khan, too, was on the hit list of the assassins.

Corroboration to the plot came from the police interrogation of a suspect arrested on Saturday in the Moose Wala murder case. Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav identified him as Kapil Pandit, who was nabbed along with two others near the Indo-Nepal border in West Bengal.

Kapil claimed he along with Sachin Bishnoi and Santosh Yadav had done multiple recces of Salman’s movements in Mumbai to plan a strategy to kill him. They were hired by gangster Lawrence Bishnoi for the hit job, he added.

“We will corroborate their statements, do further probe and then get in touch with the Mumbai Police. If need be, we may send our team to Mumbai also,” DGP Yadav said.

“Kapil revealed that he jumped parole in 2021 and has been absconding ever since. He is an accused in a murder case in his native village in Rajasthan. It was then that the Bishnoi gang approached him through Sampat Nehra and Canada-based gangster Goldy Brar to bump off Salman,’’ Yadav added.

Bofore gunning down Moosewala, Kapil confessed he had done a similar recce of the singer at the behest of the Bishnoi gang to avenge the killing of Vicky Middukhera.

On the plot to eliminate Salman, Kapil claimed he and his associates had been to Mumbai last year and stayed there for about three months.

They used a car and a bike to track Salman’s daily movements in collaboration with Sampat Nehra.

They didn’t have any weapons on them during the recce, another police officer said on condition of anonymity.

Earlier in June last, gangsters sent a threat letter to Salman and his father Salim Khan, warning that both of them would soon meet Moose Wala’s fate. In all, 23 suspects have been arrested in the Moosewala murder case so far.

Joint police ops

Kapil Pandit was arrested along with Deepak Mundi and Rajinder alias Joker in Punjab Police’s joint operation with Delhi Police as they were planning to escape to Dubai via Nepal on fake documents.

Goldy Brar had promised to send them out of India
