NEW DELHI: US President Joe Biden has been invited to India's January 26 Republic Day celebrations here in the national capital, the Ambassador of the US to India, Eric Garcetti revealed on Wednesday.

"During the sidelines of the bilateral meeting between PM Modi and President Biden on September 8th (a day ahead of the G20 Summit) PM Modi extended an invite to President Biden to come for the Republic Day," said US Ambassador to India, Eric Garcetti in Delhi on Wednesday.

President Biden hasn’t confirmed his participation yet. But, if he does, then this will be his second visit to India in four months.

India will host the next Quad Summit, however, there is no confirmation on the dates. There was speculation that all Quad leaders to attend the event.  However, considering it for a day ahead of the Republic Day isn’t strong as other members like Australia would not be able to attend. Japanese Parliament, The National Diet, will also be in operation around that time.

Meanwhile, President Biden will also be preparing for his last State of the Union address before the 2024 elections. There is no clarity yet on when the date will be.

In 2015, Barack Obama became the first US President to attend India's Republic Day parade as the chief guest, while Egypt's President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi was the chief guest at this year's Republic Day parade.
