Jharkhand: Congress's lone MP Geeta Koda quits party, joins BJP

RANCHI: Congress MP from Jharkhand's Singhbhum (ST) constituency, Geeta Kora, on Monday joined the BJP at its state headquarters in Ranchi.

The move comes months ahead of the Lok Sabha polls.

Kora joined the saffron party in the presence of BJP state president Babulal Marandi.

Geeta Koda is the wife of former Chief Minister Madhu Koda. Madhu Koda was an independent MLA, who became Chief Minister of the State in the year 2006.

After joining BJP, Geeta Koda alleged Congress party of doing appeasement politics. According to Geeta Koda, she was feeling uncomfortable in the Congress Party.

"The party says it will take everyone along, but it takes only its family along," the MP said.

"I am impressed by the working style of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The resolution of developed India will be fulfilled only under the leadership of the BJP," said Geeta Koda.

She will continue to work for public welfare, she added.

Welcoming Geeta Koda in BJP fold, Leader of Opposition in Jharkhand Assembly Amar Bauri said that the resolve of Congress-free India is being fulfilled. Not only Geeta Koda, many other veteran leaders have trusted Narendra Modi's resolve for a developed India and joined the party, he added.

The Koda family has a huge influence in the Kolhan area of the State, from where they have been winning elections continuously since 2000.
