NEW DELHI: President Droupadi Murmu said on Thursday that development of tribal people is anational priority, emphasising that a new awareness is being fostered across the country for tribal pride and the ideals of the Constitution.
“This awareness is being translated into action, and this spirit will become the foundation for the bright future of the entire nation, including tribalsociety,” Murmu said in her address to the nation on the eve of Jan Jatiya Gaurav Divas.
Reflecting on the historical struggles of the tribal people, she said that since the 18th century, tribal communities have waged organised revolts against the injustices of the British rule. She recalled her experience as the Governor of Jharkhand, where she had visited Uri-Mari village and unveiling the statues of the great tribal leaders, Sidhu-Kanhu.
