
KOLKATA: The Kolkata Police on Friday morning took the four persons arrested over the alleged gang-rape incident to the South Calcutta Law College and reconstructed the crime scene. This is the second time the reconstruction of the crime scene in this case has been carried out.
The four arrested in the case are Monojit Mishra, the prime accused, who is an alumnus and a contractual employee of the college, current students Pramit Mukherjee and Zaib Ahmed, and a security guard, Pinaki Banerjee.
According to sources, the police reached the college with four arrested persons at around 3 am on Friday. A large police force was deployed in front of the college. The incident was reconstructed in front of them. It continued till 8 am.
“Our findings will now be cross-checked with the allegation of the woman and verified with other evidence,” a police officer said.
A 9-member Special Investigation Team (SIT) was initially formed to investigate the gang rape incident. Later, the investigation was handed over to the Detective Department of Kolkata Police. They are currently investigating the case.
During the reconstruction of the crime scene, the officials of the Detective Department also conducted a 3D mapping of the South Calcutta Law College.
Earlier, the police took the victim to the spot and reconstructed the incident.
According to the victim's complaint, she was tortured from 7:30 pm to 10:50 pm on June 25. First, an attempt was made to rape her in the college's union room. After that, she was taken to the guard's room and raped.
The police have already collected seven hours of CCTV footage from the college campus on the day of the incident. Sixteen people, including the vice principal of the college, Nayna Chatterjee, have been questioned. The phone call records of the accused have been examined. It is alleged that Mishra, the prime accused, contacted the college authorities after the incident.
Mishra had 11 cases in the police records earlier. It is alleged that he had harassed women before.
