PATNA: With just days ahead of the first phase of the Bihar Assembly polls, the Mahagathbandhan's chief ministerial candidate and RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav on Sunday expressed confidence by declaring the date of his swearing-in ceremony.
Asserting that the opposition coalition would certainly form the next government, Tejashwi said, "On November 14, the results of the Bihar assembly polls will be declared, and on November 18, swearing-in will take place."
The remarks came in the backdrop of the arrest of former Mokama MLA and JDU candidate Anant Singh, in connection with the murder of Dular Chand Yadav, a supporter of Prashant Kishor's Jan Suraaj Party.
Claiming that the incident was "bound to happen," Tejashwi stressed that all criminals, irrespective of caste and religion, would be behind bars within weeks of the INDIA bloc coming to power.
"Between November 26 and January 26, which includes a month-long kharmaas period, Tejashwi will ensure that all criminals, irrespective of their caste and religion, are in jail and face the strictest possible action," he said.
In a post on X, Tejashwi said Bihar topped the states with high crime rates as per the National Crime Record Bureau reports.
The RJD leader also urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is visiting Bihar on Sunday for election campaigning, to take note of the situation in the state.
"Today, the Prime Minister is visiting Bihar. He should take note of the situation in the state where not a day passes without some heinous crime taking place. But this will change as soon as the Mahagathbandhan (the name by which INDIA bloc is known in Bihar) forms government," he said.
Reacting to Tejashwi's remarks, Lok Janshakti Party (RV) chief Chirag Paswan claimed the NDA government never protected criminals.
"If the government protected criminals, the action taken last night would not have happened. Our government is clear on one thing, as CM Nitish Kumar says, we never frame nor protect anyone,” he said.
Union Minister Nityanand Rai alleged that criminals got protection everywhere during the RJD regime.
"The law and order situation had come to such an extent that people involved in crimes like massacres, rape, murder, caste frenzy, robbery took shelter in the houses of RJD ministers," he alleged.
"Protecting criminals, practising nepotism, and grabbing the land of the poor, all this happened during RJD regime," the minister claimed.
