JAIPUR: Ten people were arrested by police in Rajasthan's Bhilwara district for allegedly spreading rumours about gas and fuel shortage, officials said on Wednesday.
They were released after completing legal formalities, the officials said.
Later, the police also released videos in which the accused were seen apologising for their actions.
They stated in the video that they had created the reels after watching similar content online and clarified that there was no shortage of fuel in the country.
Police have urged people not to make or share such misleading videos.
Bhilwara Superintendent of Police Dharmendra Singh said preventive action was taken against the accused for spreading rumours.
"The government has already made it clear that there is no shortage of LPG cylinders. Legal action will be taken against those spreading rumours," Singh said.
The SP said police monitoring social media platforms found reels falsely claiming a fuel shortage.
They identified 10 such accounts spreading misinformation to gain followers and views and took action against them.
The arrests were made from different police station limits on Tuesday.
Police said all the accused were made to delete the misleading videos before they were released.
