JEYPORE:The Border Security Force (BSF) will carry out development work in the inaccessible pockets of Koraput district to curb Maoism.Speaking to mediapersons at Koraput BSF camp on Wednesday, BSF IG A K Singh said during the last seven years, security forces have successfully checked Maoist violence in Odisha and neighbouring States. At least 800 Maoists were arrested, 700 surrendered and 1200 arms and ammunitions seized in combing operations by the jawans during this period. Following this, Maoist activities in inaccessible areas have been reduced drastically, the IG added. However, Maoists have managed to remain active in inaccessible pockets where communication network is poor.

The IG added that BSF would develop road communication in these areas to isolate Maoists. The security forces are on high alert for Martyrs week in the region to prevent any untoward incident, he informed.
Earlier in the day, the IG held a high-level meeting with senior BSF officials in Koraput. Among other things, spreading of intelligence network in Maoists pockets and coordination among police and security wings of the State were discussed. Among others, BSF DIG (Koraput sector) A K Sharma, DIG (Intelligence) J C Nayak and ADIG H S Ratala were present.
