Mumbai, Nov 27 (PTI) The Maharashtra government willorganise a series of programmes next year to mark the birthcentenary of veteran singer and musician Sudhir Phadke.

The programmes will commence from July 25, 2018, stateculture minister Vinod Tawde said at an event last night.

Phadke, an accomplished Marathi singer-composer, wasborn in 1919. He died in 2002.

He was regarded as an icon of the Marathi film industry.

Apart from Marathi, Phadke sang and composed songs in severalHindi films as well.

At the event, veteran singer Pushpa Pagdhare wasfelicitated with the 'Gansamradni Lata Mangeshkar' award.

The award has been constituted by the state culturedepartment to felicitate senior vocal artists for theircontribution to the music industry.

Music director Uttam Singh, the recipient of 'LataMangeshkar Award for Lifetime Achievement' instituted by theMaharashtra government, presented the award to Pagdhare.

Pagdhare, who is well known for the song "Itni shaktihume dena data", said getting the Lata Mageshkar award was a"dream come true" and dedicated the honour to the victims of26/11 Mumbai terror attack.

MLA Hemant Takle, producer-director N Chandra, singersSridhar Phadke and Asha Khadilkar were among the personalitiespresent at the event. PTI JUR GKRB.
