Itanagar, Oct 18 (PTI) The Arunachal Assembly todaypassed a bill paving way for creation of a new district to benamed Kamle, bifurcating the present Upper and Lower Subansiridistricts.

With the official creation of the new district, thetotal number of districts in the state shot up to 23.

Chief Minister Pema Khandu introduced the ArunachalPradesh (Re-Orgaisation of Districts) (Amendment) Bill 2017 inthe Assembly on October 14.

Kamle district, constituting the eastern part of LowerSubansiri district and western part of Upper Subansiridistrict, would have a population of 22,256 of homogeneouspeople.

It consists of six administrative units, three underLower Subansiri and three under Upper Subansiri.

In his deliberation, Khandu termed it as a longpending demand of the people of the area for betteradministration.

“The government is planning to re-visit the districtcreation policy of 1983,” the chief minister said in responseto objection raised by a few members for creating newdistricts which would affect the state’s exchequer and couldencourage more district creation in the future.

Khandu, however, assured to bring the new policy afternecessary modifications in the house for discussion sayingthere is urgent need to frame guidelines for creating newdistricts.
