

NEW DELHI: Second seeded Chetan Anand was the only Indian shuttler to reach the men's singles quarterfinals at the German Open badminton championships after Anup Sridhar and Arvind Bhat made a third round exit.
In the mixed doubles, the fourth-seeded Indian pair of Diju Valiyaveetil and Jwala Gutta Thursday dispatched American pair Halim Haryanto Ho and Yun Peng Halim 21-10, 21-12 to enter the quarterfinals. The Indians will now play Chinese Bo Zheng and Jin Ma.
According to the information received here, Anand warded off a stiff challenge from 16th seed Dane Hans-Kristian Vittinghus to win 21-14, 18-21, 21-12 in the third round Thursday. Anand will next meet Chinese Weijie Gong, who shocked sixth seeded Japanese Sho Sasaki 21-15, 21-18.
Sridhar, seeded 15th, was shown the door by third seed Malaysian 21-16, 21-18 Choong Hann Wong while ninth-seeded Bhat went down fighting to fifth-seeded Briton Andrew Smith 16-21, 21-11, 21-19.
