KOCHI: Forwards Miswer Ali and Sarun Nath K P scored eight and seven goals respectively, as St Joseph’s Boys’ HSS, Kozhikode, routed St John’s HSS, Pathanamthitta, 17-0 in the Vision India Project - Kerala under-13 state school football league here on Friday.

It rained goals at Maharaja’s College Stadium as Kozhikkode pounded the Pathanamthitta citadel right from the word go. Miswer found the mark in the 6th, 7th, 10th, 26th, 31st, 38th, 41st and 59th minutes, while Sarun struck in the 8th, 18th, 29th, 40th, 44th, 48th and 61st minutes. Akshay G added the other goals in the 3rd and 12th minutes.

In the second match of the day, GVHSS, Kannur continued their winning ways, blanking Government Boys’ HSS, Thrissur, 6-0. Arjun K A (14, 15, 23, 48 and 54) increased his goal tally to 13 from three games. Ajmal A scored the other goal in the 47th minute. The league takes another break on Saturday.

Hrishikesh, Anjali triumph

Hrishikesh S Kini and Anjali Manoj won the under-9 title for boys’ and girls’ respectively in the Ernakulam District Chess Championship at the CUSAT here. Hrishikesh edged out Paulose Paul in the sudden death after both players bagged 4.5 points each in the five-round tournament. The champion won both five-minute blitz games to emerge victorious.

Suroop Krishna settled for third place with 3.5 points. In the girls event, Anjali won four out of four to win the competition. Hilmi Parveen (3) and Lakshmi P (2.5) finished second and third respectively.
