Venus Williams appeared to be wearing no knickers during her match at the Australian Open but a closer inspection revealed she was wearing flesh-coloured underwear.
The 29 year-old received wolf-whistles from the crowd for her outfit which she designed herself.
The bright-yellow outfit, which also had a flesh-coloured plunging neckline, caused speculation on the internet from fans questioning whether she was wearing any underwear.
But the five-times Wimbledon champion explained via her Twitter site: "My dress for the Australian Open has been one of my best designs ever! It's all about the slits and V-neck. I am wearing undershorts the same colour as my skin, so it give the slits in my dress the full effect!"
She added: "This is completely my design. I just sketched it out. The whole idea is just about the illusion that I'm wearing a deep V-neck. Then the idea was to wear shorts that were the same colour as my skin. It works very well, apparently.
"Anything I wear on the court probably you can wear 20 years from now."
Williams has recently completed a fashion degree and launched her own clothing line EleVen, while on tour.
