World Chess Champion Viswanathan Anand shared his winning strategies at the NIIT National Corporate Chess Championship 2012 organised in the city recently. At the function, Anand also played simultaneous Chess with the top 20 players of the tournament and spoke on ‘Winning strategies from Chess’. Principal Secretary, Government of Karnataka, IR Perumal, IAS was present as the chief guest for the award distribution ceremony. Viswanathan Anand presented the Corporate Chess Team Championship trophy to TCS. Infosys Chennai Team A and Infosys Bangalore won the 2nd and 3rd positions respectively in the team championship category. Corporate Individual Championship trophies were presented to the 1st, 2nd and 3rd position holders. The Smt. Leela Biswas Memorial Award for the Most Promising Women Player of the Championship was also presented by Anand.

Speaking on Winning Strategies from Chess, World Chess Champion and Viswanathan Anand said, “Chess is a classic game of strategy. A game that puts to test the ability to think ahead, anticipate every move of the opponent while strengthening logical thinking and concentration. Chess can play an important role in building leaders of tomorrow.”

 “Playing simultaneous chess with young professionals at this Championship, has been a great experience. I am confident that they will be able to replicate these moves in their careers as well and emerge champions in their respective fields,” added Anand.

The Championship 2012 saw widespread participation by more than 60 top corporates from across India in both the team and individual category. There were about 250 participants and 35 teams vying for the titles in the tournament.
