International Master R Balasubramaniam of ICF shared the lead with FIDE Master M Vinoth Kumar (both five points) after the fifth round of the United India 2nd CDCA FIDE-rated chess tournament at Hall of Chess, Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, here on Wednesday. Nine players including IM norm holder Ram S Krishnan and FIDE Master P Maheswaran share the third spot on 4.5 points. On the top board, Chennai youngster S Prasannaa held top seed Ram S Krishnan to a draw.

The double round day saw Balasubramaniam putting it across veteran C S Sridhar, while M Vinoth Kumar overcame Chennai junior P Mythireyan.

Treble For Jagadesh

Jagadesh bagged the sub-junior billiards, snooker and junior billiards title in the Tamil Nadu  state ranking billiards and snooker tournament at the TNBSA premises. Anugraha of PITS College, Thanjavur, bagged the juniors girls snooker title, defeating RC Bhuvanesree of PITS College, Thanjavur, 2–0 in the best of three frames.

All-round display by S Srinivasan (49; 4-12) helped Harrington CA defeat Madras Christian College High School, Tambaram, by 63 runs in the U-14 final of the Harrington CA cricket tournmament at Mayajal grounds.
