Velammal Group of Schools bagged four of the five team titles in the second National Schools Team Chess Championship at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium on Thursday.
DAV Boys HSS halted Velammal’s spree by taking the team title in the Under-5,7,9 category.
Top seed Velammal `A’ clinched titles in U-17, 13 and 11 age categories, scoring 10, 9 and 6 match points respectively.
Fellow school-mates Velammal “B” got one up on the favourites winning the Under-15 team title, edging out Velammal “A” with superior a tie-break at 8 match points.

Chess tourney
Under the aegis of All India Chess Federation and Tamil Nadu Chess Association, St. Joseph’s-3rd International FIDE Rating Chess Championship will be conducted at the St. Joseph’s College of Engineering from June 29 to July 3.
The prize money for this tournament is Rs 1, 50,000 with the winner bagging Rs 40,000, runner-up Rs 25,000 and third place `15,000.
Prize money will be given to the top 40 players while special prizes will be given to the top five players in under 8, 10, 12 and 14 categories.
Entry fee is free for the players with rating above 1400. The fee is Rs 600 for players rated below 1400 and Rs 1000 for unrated ones.
