CHENNAI: With just days to go before the inaugural Indian Super League season kicks off, FC Pune City has pulled another marquee player out of the bag, agreeing terms with Greek star Kostas Katsouranis.
Prashant Agarwal, CEO of Kshatriya Sports, who worked behind the deal, confirmed to TNIE that a deal had been struck. “Katsouranis has agreed terms with Pune and will fly to India shortly,” he said.
The defensive midfielder, who can also play as a centre back, captained Greece in most of the matches at the 2014 World Cup, with regular captain Giorgos Karagounis mostly restricted to substitute appearances. He becomes the first alumni of Rio 2014 to appear in the ISL.
Katsouranis’ arrival further boosts a star-studded line-up for Pune, who already boast the likes of David Trezeguet and are rumoured to be signing Adrian Mutu.
