NEW DELHI: Three heroes sacrificed their lives while trying to thwart terrorists in Pathankot on Saturday. One among them was former India international shooter Subedar Major (Retd) Fateh Singh. The brave soldier succumbed to bullet wounds while engaging in fierce gun-battle against a terror outfit, suspected to belong to Jaish-e-Mohammed outfit, who hit an Air Force base in early hours on Saturday.

Singh, a former bore shooter, was 51. He was a part of the Defence Security Core (DSC) and was posted with the Dogra regiment.

His most notable performance as a shooter was when he won a double (gold and silver) during the inaugural Commonwealth Shooting Championship, which was held in New Delhi in 1995.

National Rifle Association of India (NRAI) condoled the death. “We are very sad. We lost a very brave and brilliant shooter. Big bore shooting was not that popular but he did very well. He put up a commendable performance in the Commonwealth Shooting Championships in 1995,” Rajiv Bhatia, NRAI secretary said.

“The country has lost its beloved son and a sharp shooter. May the almighty grant peace to the great soldier,” Raninder Singh, NRAI president said.
