HYDERABAD: Perhaps, it was the best performance of the day for Hyderabad this season. Medium-pacer Alfred Absolom captured 5 for 89 as Hyderabad dismissed Railways for 305 in 131 overs and then the home team, in reply, made a confident start putting on 99 for 2 in 44.4 overs on the second day of the Elite Group A Ranji Trophy league match at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium on Wednesday.
Railways, who were dismissed 37 minutes after lunch, sent back Hyderabad opener Abhinav Kumar, who was leg before to medium- pacer Santosh Saxena in the third over. But thereafter the two southpaws P Shashank Nag (51) and Anirudh Singh (41 batting) batted steadily to give a good platform for Hyderabad to put up a solid total. They put on 86 for the second wicket. Railways got the second breakthrough at the fag end of the day when Nag was trapped in front by Krishna Kant.
Earlier in the morning, starting at 211 for five, Railways lost their overnight batsman Yere Goud, who played on to be bowled by Absolom.
Railways went to lunch at 292 for six. But Hyderabad bounced back post-lunch. Railways lost four wickets for 13 runs in eight overs.
Absolom went on to bag two more wickets.
