HYDERABAD: Hyderabad and Orissa Ranji teams recorded their first victories in the inaugural Deccan Twenty20 cricket tournament at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium here today.

Hyderabad, whose match against Andhra was abandoned on Thursday as the Telangana protesters invaded the field, scored a facile five-wicket win over Hyderabad under-19 team while Orissa dashed the hopes of Hyderabad under-22 team with a 19-run win.

On an incident-free day, electing to bat, Orissa scored 164 for 9 in 20 overs. The Hyderabad under-22 bowlers had pushed Orissa on the back foot when the visitors were struggling at 75/5 in 11.2 overs before recovering to put up a decent score. Medium- pacer Chandrakanth bowled brilliantly to return with fine figures of 2 for 11 in four overs.

For Orissa, Rakesh Mohanty put up a sterling show with the bat and ball. He struck 32-ball 43 (2x4, 2x6).

Bipudatta made 36 (16 balls) while Subhajit Sahoo slammed 13-ball 25 to boost Orissa total.

Opener Neeraj Bist, who took two wickets in one over in Orissa’s innings, gave the home team a good start with 21-ball 42. But once he departed, the Hyderabad innings folded and were all out for 145.

Rakesh Mohanty and Paresh Patel bagged three wickets apiece.

Hyderabad Ranji team were too good for the under-19 team. The colts were restricted to 132/8. Sandeep Goud top scored with 34 while B Sandeep made 33. The Ranji team’s run chase was led by wicketkeeper Ibrahim Khaleel, who made 41 (35 balls). Amol Shinde came up with a cameo (20-ball 33) to ensure an easy win for the Ranji team.
