MUMBAI: Indian opener Gautam Gambhir, who was done in a by a bad decision by the Australian umpire Bruce Oxenford when he was ruled caught behind off a leg side catch, said he missed the Decision Review System (DRS) on Thursday.
The removal of DRS was BCCI and the captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s decision. Gambhir said: “There are times they go in your favour and at times do not. Today I missed DRS but there would be occasions in future where I would say thanks there was no DRS. Important thing is everything evens out.”
Talking about the match, Gambhir is still optimistic of India’s win. “We are still 109 runs short of saving the follow-on. We all know things change quickly in India. We still feel there is a chance of winning. We have two quality spinners and once it starts spinning it would be very difficult for the opposition to handle. If we can get 500 or 550 on this wicket we can still try and get a result from this Test,” he pointed out.
“It is difficult to stay in such kind of form for a long time in international cricket. The important thing is how you are hitting the ball. I have been hitting the ball well. Even the one-dayers against England, I was not able to convert those 50s into 100s which is there in my mind. I have been getting 50s and giving good starts which is important for the team.”
Gambir said that them team was not thinking much about Sachin Tendulkar’s 100th 100. “The team members were not thinking much about Sachin’s feat. But what the team requires at this moment is to save the follow-on and in that course if Sachin gets it, then it is good. The bigger goal is to think about the team and what we want to achieve out of this match.”
