SYDNEY: Former Australia captain Ricky Ponting has celebrated becoming the first player with 100 test victories by flying back to Australia for the birth of his second child.
Ponting was scheduled to arrive on Sunday in Australia, which is Father's Day, to be with his wife, Rianna.
Scans show she is due to give birth in the next few days. The couple's first child, daughter Emmy Charlotte, is 3.
Australia won the first test against Sri Lanka on Saturday by 125 runs, making Ponting the first to play in 100 test victories in a career.
Batsman David Warner was flown to Sri Lanka as replacement cover for Ponting. The second test starts in Pallekele on Thursday, and Ponting hopes to return for the third test in Colombo beginning Sept. 16.
