KOLKATA: Former India one-day player Rohan Gavaskar today retired from competitive cricket, more than two years after playing his last first class match.
Rohan, who was Bengal captain for two years from 2001 to2002, has forwarded a letter to the Cricket Board President N.Srinivasan informing him about his decision to quit.
Son of legendary batsman Sunil Gavaskar, Rohan played 11 ODIs between January and September 2004 before he was dropped. He had scored 151 runs at an average of 18.87 with a half century to his credit.
He also played in 117 first class matches, his last being against Uttar Pradesh in December 2009 in a Ranji Trophy Super League tie.
He has 6938 first class runs to his credit at an average of 44.19, hitting 18 centuries and 34 half centuries with 212 not out being the highest score.
He played for Kolkata Knight Riders in the Indian Premier League till 2010 before he took up media commitments.
