Kevin Pietersen was left out of England's 30-man provisional squad onWednesday for the World Twenty20 in Sri Lanka in September.
Pietersen retired from limited-overs cricket in May because his desire to beavailable for T20s and not one-day internationals was not accepted. But hehinted last Saturday that he was negotiating with the England and Wales CricketBoard about a U-turn. But the talks appear to have been unsuccessful, andPietersen will remain in limited-overs retirement and available only for testswhen England defends the trophy in two months.
"I've said before that, if the schedule was right, I would love to playfor another three or four years in all forms of cricket," Pietersen saidlast Saturday.
"But the schedule is a nightmare. I hope something can be sortedout."
Many felt Pietersen withdrew from all one-day forms of international cricket todevote more time to the lucrative Indian Premier League.
He signed a deal to play for the Delhi Daredevils in this year's IPL for areported $2 million, and in one match he hit 103 runs from only 64 balls.
Pietersen's the only Englishman to pass 1,000 T20 runs, and was voted theplayer of the tournament when England won the Twenty20 trophy in the Caribbeanin 2010. His ODI average of 48.14 was also sixth all-time among Englandbatsmen.
England ODI captain Alistair Cook is in the T20 squad, alongside Ian Bell,James Anderson and Eoin Morgan.
The 30-man squad must be cut to 15 before Aug. 18.
