Ex-CSK boss left high and dry

Joint commissioner of Police Himanshu Roy claimed that Meiyappan used to divulge with confidential information pertaining to India Cements owned franchisee Chennai Super Kings to bookies.

Joint commissioner of Police Himanshu Roy claimed that Meiyappan used to divulge with confidential information pertaining to India Cements owned franchisee Chennai Super Kings to bookies such as Vindu Dara Singh.

According to him, he used to pass on information such as team strategies and other inside information such as what position a batsman would bat at, which only a few can access. “The case against Meiyappan is of compromising the confidential information related to his team (CSK) and using it for betting. He was in constant touch with Vindu. There are  instances where he has given information about team strategy and composition,” said Roy.

Though the charges are basically for betting and cheating, both not entailing to severe punishment, insiders have a hunch there are enough pointers in the chargesheet to indicate that the duo, along with fellow accused and Pakistani umpire Asad Rauf, could have been involved in something more significant. Hence, more skeletons might tumble out of the cupboard in days to come.

For instance, in one of their many conversations on May 12, Meiyappan told Vindu that CSK would make between 130 to 140 runs against Rajasthan Royals and Meiyappan bet against his own team through Vindu, and it eventually came true.

That Meiyappan knew this beforehand has considerably raised the suspicion of the Crime Branch officials,

The transcript of their mobile conversation only strengthens the assumption. In a particular conversation at 1:29 pm on May 15, Rauf called up Vindu and tipped him off, “Today you bet all of your life’s savings on Mumbai Indians.”  Vindu immediately rang up bookie Pawan Jaipur and told him, “ Whatever gifts we gave to Dada (Rauf), would be recovered today.”
