Badrinath, Balaji Shine as TN Down Karnataka to Lift Title

Tamil Nadu denied Karnataka a triple trophy success handing out a 7-wicket defeat in the decisive league match of the South Zone Subbaiah Pillai Trophy limited overs cricket match at the Chinnaswamy Stadium on Wednesday.

An asking rate of four-plus runs an over was surely a gift that the Tamil Nadu batsman wouldn’t look in the mouth.

Umakant Sushil (73) and S Badrinath (81 not out) pieced together a good stand of 147 runs for the second wicket to ensure that Tamil Nadu cruised to victory.  Sushil and Badrinath took the sting off the attack with some lusty hitting.

Earlier, opener Robin Uthappa was the highest scorer with 33 and the second highest run fetcher for the hosts were ‘Mr Extras’ with 29. For Tamil Nadu, L Balaji had figures of 3 for 39 while Rahil Shah bagged 3 for 28.

Brief scores: Karnataka 168 all in 40.3 overs (Robin Uthappa 33, L Balaji 3 for 39, Rahil Shah 3 for 28) lost to Tamil Nadu 169 for 3 in 35.5 overs (U Sushil 73, S Badrinath 81 not out) by 7 wkts.
