CHANDIGARH: The left-hander Yuvraj Singh today got married to British-Mauritian model and actor Hazel Keech in a quiet ceremony at the dera of Baba Ram Singh Ganduan Wale in Duffera village on Sirhind-Chandigarh Road in Fatehgarh Sahib district of Punjab. As per the sikh traditions, the Anand Karj ceremony of 34 year old Yuvraj Singh and Hazel Keech took place at the dera today evening and the newlywed couple got the blessing of Dera Head Baba Ram Singh.
As Yuvi’s mother Shabnam Singh is a devotee of Sant Ajit Singh Hansaliwale - Yuvi's religious mentor who has Dera Hansaliwale - the couple tied the knot at that particular dera. The wedding was a low-key and quiet affair with only the family members and couple's close friends were present. Meanwhile Yuvraj’s father and former cricketer-cum-actor Yograj Singh did not attend the weeding as he had earlier announced that he will not come.
Also no one from the present Indian team attended the marriage today, only VRV Singh and actors Gaurav Kapoor and Angad Bedi attended the marriage at the dera. While wore a velvet sherwani with maroon pagdi (turban) and jooti (shoe) and Hazel wore a deep red lehenga with intricate golden embroidery and pink sleeves.
It seemed that the matching dress the couple wore had already been planned well in advance. Hazel visited the dera for the second time today as she had earlier visited the dera after their engagement .
Hazel’s family and friends reached the dera about half and hour before Yuvi’s family came. The devotees at the dera and villagers of nearby villagers were present there to see Yuvraj get married. The devotees who were inside the dera to pay obeisance to the baba became the part of the small gathering of both families in the marriage festivities.
There was tight security arrangement near the dera and it was well decorated. After the wedding rituals, the couple and their families and friends had langar (community food) at the dera. They were scheduled to reach the dera for the weeding at 2.30 PM but were late and finally reached at 4 pm.
The line of luxury cars like Mercedes and Audis also a Mercedes bus was arranged to ferry the family and friends to the dera from Chandigarh and back.
Yograj Singh and Yuvraj’s mother Shabnam were divorced years ago, after which Yuvraj chose to stay with his mother.
Yesterday at the late night pre-wedding reception at Hotel Lalit in the city, his Indian team mates including captain Virat Kohli, Ashish Nehra, Umesh Yadav and coach Anil Kumble were present. Also actor Ayushmann Khuranna, Punjabi actress Preeti Sapru, Member of Parliament from AAP Bhagwant Mann graced the occasion and - not to miss - Yograj Singh father of Yuvraj who came to bless the couple.
