CHENNAI: Left-Arm spinners R Sai Kishore and R Alexander spun a web around Lyca Kovai Kings batsmen as Chepauk Super Gillies posted a 27-run win on VJD method in Qualifier 2 to reach the Tamil Nadu Premier League final.
They will meet Tuti Patriots at Chepauk on August 20. After restricting Kovai to 136/9 at the India Cements ground in Tirunelveli on Friday, Gillies were 90/1 after 11 overs when rain stopped play. Calculations showed they were well ahead of the required total of 64 at that stage. Kovai won the toss but found the going tough against Gillies spinners.
Sai Kishore sent back L Suryaprakash in the second over and three more blows after a 34-run second-wicket stand broke Kovai’s back. While Sai Kishore took one more and finished with 4-0-16-2, Alexander’s figures of 4-0-25-2 included the big wicket of Murali Vijay. The opener made a 21-ball 24 before being stumped.
N Mohammed (30 off 25) and S Harish Kumar (32 off 19) tried to restore the innings, but their efforts could not take the team beyond 136/9.
