Choudhary & Chaudhry for next month's ICC meeting?

It seems that office-bearers not disqualified by the Supreme Court will represent BCCI in ICC meetings beginning in Dubai from February 2.

CHENNAI: It seems that office-bearers not disqualified by the Supreme Court will represent BCCI in ICC meetings beginning in Dubai from February 2. This makes joint-secretary Amitabh Choudhary and treasurer Anirudh Chaudhry likely candidates.

Board CEO Rahul Johri’s name may also be submitted. He had attended an ICC meeting last year when Shirke was absent. With president Anurag Thakur and secretary Ajay Shirke barred by the court from getting involved in board activities, the BCCI asked the court for guidance on the ICC meeting at the January 24 hearing. The court told the BCCI counsel to submit names on January 27.

“Given that the top two are not eligible at the moment, it’s possible that Choudhary and Chaudhry will be the BCCI’s representatives to the ICC meeting. Their names might be submitted in the court on Friday. It’s logical under the circumstances to think of the joint-secretary and treasurer,” sources told Express.

Choudhary has completed nine years in Jhrakhand Cricket Association, but can still serve the BCCI for seven more years because he has been in office since March 2015. Going by new rules, he has to take cooling-off break after three years.

Chaudhry, who represents Haryana Cricket Association, has also completed nine years in the state body. He has been treasurer since 2013 and according to rules, has to serve the cooling-off period before he can resume office in BCCI.

Former BCCI and ICC chief Sharad Pawar had earlier been nominated India’s representative to the world body. But with the court being strict about the 70-year clause, he may not be allowed. “With just two office-bearers eligible, it can be Choudhary and Chaudhry,” sources said.

The BCCI has not been in good terms with the ICC ever since Shashank Manohar took over as its chairman. The meeting is likely to finalise a new revenue model, wherein the BCCI’s share of profits is in for a cut. Sources said the BCCI is yet to receive the agenda for the upcoming meeting.
