India will certainly come hard at us in Bengaluru Test: Mitchell Marsh

BENGALURU: All-rounder Mitchell Marsh has played a reasonable number of Tests and one-day internationals for Australia, but with limited success. But with a Test century still elusive, he will be hoping to get that big one in the ongoing tour of India.

He got a few runs in the first Test, but Marsh feels that being in a team that scored a fantastic win is a big thing in itself as far as he is concerned. “This is probably one of the best victories in Tests that I’ve played in,” he said here on Thursday.

“It was pretty emotional at the end of the game, but was also fantastic. And to be able to spend 80 balls in the second innings on that wicket gave me a lot of confidence to hopefully score a few runs in the second Test.”

Asked if he would like to bowl too, he said: “It all depends on how many overs we bowl as a team. Sure, I’ll get to bowl at some stage.”

Australia have tasted a fair amount of success in Bengaluru. And that is a confidence-booster for the visiting side.

“That’s something we’ve spoken about as a group. Although none of us have played here, we want to continue Australia’s winning ways at this ground. Hopefully, that’ll be the case in six days’ time,” he stated.

The 25-year-old was not too sure of changes in the teams. “It depends on how they (India) think the wicket is going to play. But we’re going to focus on our team,” he noted.

However, Marsh and his team are wary of the reaction they will get from the hosts in the second Test. “We know India is a proud cricketing nation. This team will certainly come hard at us, and we’re expecting a great fight. We are 1-0 up, and it’s going to be game on,” he opined.

The Western Australian, however, did not want to read too much into the pitch that will be prepared for the second game, saying both sides have the same 22 yards to play on.
