Kerala Police emerge winners in P John Memorial volleyball tournament

CHENNAI: Kerala Police emerged winners in the women’s segment at the end of the final league round
of the P John Memorial all-India volleyball tournament held at the Mayor Radhakrishnan Stadium
here on Saturday. 

The winners bagged the SNJ Trophy and a cash prize of Rs 75,000. SAI, Thalassery, came
second and won the TMB Trophy and were richer by Rs 50,000. Southern Railway, Chennai, got the
bronze and were awarded the PD Boaz Memorial Trophy, and a cash purse of Rs 40,000.

South Central Railway bt Southern Railway 25-21, 27-25, 20-25, 25-23; SAI, Thalassery bt

Loyola College win
Loyola College defeated Income Tax 6-5 in a league round match of the Indian Bank state-level invitation
hockey tournament, held at the Mayor Radhakrishnan Stadium.
Results: Chennai City Police bt VRDA 4-3; Loyola College bt Income Tax 6-5.

Senthil sparkles

An all-round display by H Senthil Kumar (6/37, 47) was the feature of Jai Hind CC’s six-wicket win over Presidency College Athletic Association in a Fifth Division A Zone league match of the TNCA. T Subburaj also chipped in for Jai Hind, returning with figures of 3/15.

In other matches held on the same day, Kohinoor XI suffered an eight-wicket loss at the hands of Alstom T&D, with the latter cruising to their win in just 19.1 overs. Sankar Subramanian and B Ashwin were the wreckers-inchief for the winners, ending the clash with three wickets apiece.

NS Seshamani then took over from the two, guiding Alstom over the finishing line with his unbeaten half-century. Nungambakkam pipped Milkyway with three wickets to spare in a clash that saw a fifer from each team. Manoj Prabhakar’s 5/39 was trumped, though, by JP Donald’s 5/31.
