ROME: Italy's former international goalkeeper Walter Zenga has been appointed coach of Serie A strugglers Crotone.

The 57-year-old replaces Devide Nicola who resigned on Wednesday after winning just 12 points from 15 games, leaving the club from southern Italy hovering just above the relegation zone.

Zenga, who played 58 times for Italy and was Inter Milan's 'keeper for a decade, has held a string of coaching jobs without ever achieving great success.

He had stints at Red Star Belgrade, spent just 87 days in charge of English side Wolverhampton Wanderers, and also managed Gaziantepspor in Turkey and several clubs in Saudi Arabia and the UAE.

In Italy, he has already tried his hand at Sampdoria, Catane and Palermo.
