The 10th edition of the Indian Premier league will start from today, where the defending champions Sunrisers Hyderabad will take on the last year's runners-up Royal Challengers Bangalore. The match will be held at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium at Hyderabad's Uppal. Over the next one-and-half-a month, a total of 56 league games will be played, followed by two qualifiers and an eliminator, to decide the finalists. The final will be held at Hyderabad on May 21st.
The main venues of the tournament, which also will be used as the homegrounds for all the eight franchises, are Hyderabad, Bangalore, Mumbai, Delhi, Mohali, Rajkot, Pune and Kolkata. Apart from these venues, Kanpur's Green park and Indore's Holkar Stadium will be used as 'neutral venues' for Gujarat Lions and Kings XI Punjab respectively.
After playing 16 league games each (eight home and eight away), top four teams in the points table will participate in the play-offs. In that stage, a total of three games will be played. The top two teams will get the benefit of playing two qualifiers for reaching the final, whereas the team losing in the eliminator (which will be played between the third and fourth in the points table) will be knocked out from this round. The winners of the first and second qualifiers will eventually play the final match at Hyderabad.
All the matches will be telecast at Sony ESPN and Set Max.
