Viva draw hands CFA Senior Division title to Chennai City FC

Chennai City FC emerged champions of the CFA Senior Division league after their closest rivals Viva Chennai drew their final game 2-2 against Income Tax.

CHENNAI: Chennai City FC emerged champions of the CFA Senior Division league after their closest rivals Viva Chennai drew their final game 2-2 against Income Tax. Viva were three points behind Chennai City and needed to win this game to enforce a play-off. But they were only able to draw. The result also means that Income Tax staved off relegation.

Ajai, Nithya win
Besant Nagar Club’s Ajai Selvaraj and B Nithya Raj beat Egmore Tennis Club’s C Rameez Samad and GS Vasavi  6-2, 6-3 in the final of the 8th UCAL-TNTA Chennai inter-club mixed doubles league-cum-knockout championship, at Mayor Radhakrishnan Stadium.
Veteran player Mohammed Ali gave away the trophy and the winner’s cheque for `10,000. The runners-up got `5,000.
Results: Besant Nagar bt Egmore Tennis Club 1-0 (Ajai Selvaraj/B Nithya Raj bt C Rameez Samad/G.S. Vasavi  6-2, 6-3).

Tushar shines
Tushar Raheja’s unbeaten 58 helped St Bede’s AIHSS beat PSBB Millennium in the final of the 10th Rahul Dravid Cup inter-school T20 knockout tournament. The winners got `25,000 and the runners-up `15,000. Former South Zone and Tamil Nadu cricketer S Mahesh gave away the prizes.
Final: PSBB Millennium 124/7 in 20 ovs lost to St.Bede’s AIHSS 127/3 in 17.2 ovs (Tushar Raheja 58 no).
3rd place: VKP A 102/12.4 ovs (Rohit Parakh 4/17) lost to Santhome 108/2 in 12.4 ovs (Sanjay Srinivas 75 no).

Best Batsman: Sanjay Srinivas (Santhome). Best Bowler: Manav Patel (VKP A).
Best All-rounder: Pranav Kumar (PSBB Millennium).
Best Wicketkeeper: Ajay Chetan (Santhome).
Best Fielder: Tushar Raheja (St Bede’s). Player of the Series: Mohammed Shafeequddin (VKP A).
Ashwin’s U-14 tournament
India spinner R Ashwin’s Gen-Next Cricket Institute will organise the Manna Foods Royal Rumble U-14 tournament, at RKM School (T Nagar) from May 6. The tournament will feature the top 16 cricket academies in the city. Matches are of 25 overs per side.

“I’m sure this tournament will become popular and also become a permanent fixture in Chennai’s summer programme. The idea is to provide opportunities to kids on good turf wickets,” noted Ashwin, chief mentor of the academy. Teams have been divided into four groups. The semifinals will be played on May 27 and the final on May 28. There is no entry fee in the invitational tournament.
Cricket camp
Chennai St Bede’s Sports Foundation will conduct a summer cricket camp at St Bede’s grounds from May 1-31 for boys between 6 to 19. Registration forms are available at St Bede’s grounds. For details contact 9840070486/98412 27966.
