BHONGIR: In an obvious attempt to boost the morale of the party cadres, Praja Rajyam Party president Chiranjeevi took both the ruling and main Opposition parties head on and warned them that his party would be an organisation to reckon with. Chiranjeevi began his Praja Ankita Sabhas, a modified programme of his party’s mass contact campaign, in Nalgoda district this morning. He addressed mini public meetings at Yadagirigutta, Bhongir and Pochampalli.
He assailed the Congress and the Telugu Desam parties for their failure to develop the State during the last 13 years. Chiranjeevi criticised the Congress for trying to lure the voters by introducing popular schemes in the last year of its tenure. Describing the TD and the Congress as two faces of the same coin, the PRP chief cited the charges Naidu and Rajasekhara Reddy levelled against each other and asked the people to judge themselves which of the parties was better. Speaking about his earnings in films, the PRP chief said that whatever he had with him was given by the people and that he did not loot public money.
Touching upon the irrigation projects, he alleged that the ruling party leaders had taken commissions from the contractors and asked the government to show at least one project which would get completed soon.
In the meeting at Yadagirigutta, Chiranjeevi expressed his anguish over the deplorable conditions in which the people of the district were living. ``Even though river Krishna flows through the district, it is deprived of water for agriculture and consumption,’’ he lamented.
Speaking on the issue of flourosis, he said the condition of the victims would have been far better if the government had spent 10 per cent of the corrupt money on them.
Speaking on the statehood for Telangana, he reiterated that his party would welcome the steps taken by the Centre for separation. He thanked the Nava Telanagana Party (NTP) cadre for expressing their support at the public meetings by waving flags and cheering him. Earlier in the day, Chiranjeevi offered special pooja at the Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy temple.
