HYDERABAD: Barring minor incidents, majority of the educational institutions across the State remained closed in response to the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) sponsored nation-wide bandh today.
The bandh was called to protest against the infiltration of Bangladeshis into the country to carry out terror attacks.
While the Osmania University postponed all examinations scheduled for today, the Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University conducted the examinations without any hitch. The bandh sponsors stopped private buses and other vehicles carrying students to schools and colleges and deflated a few of them in the city.
However, tension prevailed in Warangal and Peddapally town of Karimnagar district when ABVP activists ransaked the furniture of two private schools which tried to defy them. The Warangal police took eight ABVP activists into custody following the incident.
In Adilabad, the bandh evoked mixed response as many schools functioned normally.
ABVP leaders Jadhav, Sravan Kumar and others informed the students in the schools about the purpose of the bandh.
Elsewhere in the State, the bandh passed off peacefully.
