Gundlakamma project dedicated to nation

ONGOLE: Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy dedicated Gundlakamma (Kandula Obul Reddy) project to the nation today and devoted most of his time to launch a vitriolic attack on Telugu Desam supremo Chandrababu Naidu and Praja Rajyam party supremo Chiranjeevi.

Addressing a public meeting after inaugurating the project, the Chief Minister said that Jalayagnam was the only panacea to strengthen the rural economy and to provide permanent employment to the rural populace.

He said the Congress Government would cross all hurdles created for the irrigation projects with people’s support and strength.

“Building projects is not like producing a two-hour film. The problems cannot be solved overnight and similarly projects also may not be completed in the scheduled time,” he said, taking a dig at the film thespian.

Of the 76 projects taken up under Jalayagnam, 12 projects have been completed, Ramatheertham and Gundlakamma in the district were among them. The completed projects would provide irrigation water to 16.30 lakh acres and another 13 projects would be completed in another year.

The Government would complete the remaining projects in two or four years, he said.

“Opposition parties have raised many corruption allegations against the irrigation projects, but none of them could prove charges,” he ridiculed and added that later the parties went to courts to create hurdles for the projects, but the Government could overcome all.

The State was under severe grip of drought during the nine-year rule of Telugu Desam throwing the State economy into tatters. The rural people witnessed hell and the Congress took up Jalayagnam with an intention to avoid such a situation, the Chief Minister said.

“It is shameful on the part of opposition parties that they are politicising even Jalayagnam,” he remarked, adding that in other states the opposition parties fully back the ruling party in such a situation, but the situation here is quite contrary.

Earlier in the party workers meet, he came down heavily on Chiranjeevi.

“All these years, he thrived on poor people’s money in the film industry. What service has he done for the people and what service has he rendered to the film industry?” he questioned. Reddy went on to add that Chiranjeevi could possibly don any role in the reel life, but it was not possible in real life
