KURNOOL: Getting elected at least once is a big feat during these days of cut-throat competition in politics. But the district has the credit of delivering many politicians who scored a hat-trick not just as MLAs but even as MPs too. A glimpse into the details of the leaders in this category.

BV’s saga: Former minister BV Mohan Reddy created a record of sorts by getting elected to the Assembly five times from Yemmiganur. After winning a by-election in 1983, BV won the 1985, 1989, 1994 and 1999 elections consecutively. In fact the first place among the hatrick leaders goes to BV.

Currently he is in the fray from here on TDP ticket.

Awesome twosome: From Kodumur Assembly constituency which has been a Congress bastion, two persons- -Damodaram Muniswamy and M Sikhamani-- have scored a hat-trick.

Since 1972 when he was unanimously elected, Muniswamy won in 1978 and 1983. Sikhamani won the 1994, 1999 and 2004 elections and passed away during his term as an MLA.

Chowdary’s record: Rambhupal Chowdary has special place in the history of Kurnool Assembly segment. Except for him, nobody in the past had ever won an election for the second term from here. He was elected to the Assembly in 1983, 1985 and 1989 consecutively. As he was not allotted ticket by the TDP, he joined the Congress.

SV’s stronghold in Pattikonda: Coming to senior MLA SV Subba Reddy, Pattikonda has been his bastion.

After his political debut in 1972, he scored a hat-trick by getting elected to the Assembly in 1994, 1999 and 2004 consecutively. Though KB Narsappa was elected thrice from the segment in the past he was not elected consecutively.

KE’s record: Dhone Assembly constituency has been KE Krishnamurthy family’s fort for a long tine now. On both the Congress and TDP tickets, he was elected to the Assembly four times consecutively in 1978, 1983, 1985 and 1989 setting up a unique record in the constituency.

BV Subbareddy in Koyilakuntla: By getting elected to the Assembly four times between 1955 and 1972, BV Subbareddy created a record in Koyilakuntla Assembly segment.

Interestingly, he was elected twice unanimously in 1962 and 1972. Karra Subbareddy too scored a hat-trick from here by winning the 1985, 1989 and 1994 elections.

Katasani in Panyam: For decades, Panyam has been sitting MLA Katasani Rambhupal Reddy’s stronghold. After winning the 1985, 1989 and 1994 elections consecutively, he tasted defeat in 1999. He was later elected to the Assembly in 2004 and currently in the fray from here as the Congress candidate.

Atmakur, the Budda’s fort: Except for twice, voters have been behind Budda Vengal Reddy’s family in Atmakur since its formation in 1978. He was elected to the Assembly four times consecutively in 1978, 1983, 1985 and 1989 from the segment. Parasu Pratap Reddy won from here in 1994 and 2004. Vengal Reddy’s son Budda Seetharami Reddy was elected from here in 1999.

Kotla and Bhuma’s achievements: In the district only in Nandyal Lok Sabha constituency hat-trick was reported.

Bhuma Nagireddy was elected to the Parliament from here in 1996, 1998 and 1999. Though Kotla Vijay Bhaskar Reddy was elected to the Parliament six times he couldn’t achieve a single hatrick.
