RANGAREDDY: A ‘lava’ like liquid oozed from Government’s wastelands in Kalkoda village in Marpally mandal of Rangareddy district, 70 km from here, sending local people run for their lives.

However, the officials were still to ascertain the reasons for eruption and the kind of elements the lava contained. Initial reports by  mining officials suggest that the lava contained lead. It all started when some villagers, busy with bush-clearance works under NREGP in the Government lands in Kalkoda village yesterday, found lava-like liquid oozing out from the earth. They brought this to the notice of officials and police. The `lava’ came out from the earth at four places creating pits about 10 feet deep and 10-ft wide. The liquid looked like liquid glass.  When some villagers tried to touch it they suffered burns.

Vikarabad Revenu Divisional Officer (RDO) Shivalingaiah told reporters that they have sent the sample of the material to the Mines Department for lab tests and also sending a detailed report to the District Collector. Mines and Geology Department Assistant director Jayaraj opined that, indeed, lava came out from the earth in the village. However, there was a need to examine the material in the lab. Vikarabad MLA G Prasad Rao and several public representatives have also visited the site.
