HYDERABAD: Rain lashed the twin cities and different parts of the State on Monday with a force that would have made even the most pessimistic of men sit up and enjoy a steaming cup of chai, coming as it did, after an agonisingly long wait this season. And, Met officials, usually bearers of bad tidings, for a change, say more rains are likely for at least the next 48 hours, thanks to the active southwest monsoon over Rayalaseema, presence of a trough of low pressure over the Bay of Bengal. While coastal Andhra Pradesh received rain at a few places, isolated rain occurred at some places in Telangana. Moderate to heavy rain was recorded at several places in the districts of Hyderabad, Ranga Reddy, Guntur, Tirupati, Warangal, Anantapur, Nellore, Chittoor, Kurnool, and Khammam.
In Hyderabad, hard rain provided much-needed relief. However, traffic was paralysed as kneelength water flooded congested junctions. Several areas were inundated too. 15 mm rainfall was recorded in the State capital.
According to the Met officials, moderate to rather heavy rain or thunder showers are likely at many places over Rayalaseema and in the districts of Guntur, Krishna, Prakasam and Nellore in the next two days. Light to moderate rain or thunder showers are likely at a few places in Telangana and the remaining districts of coastal Andhra Pradesh.
