HYDERABAD: Former Medak MP Ale Narendra has been hooked off a case registered against him and his supporters in the Hussaini Alam Police Station for allegedly assaulting and obstructing the City Police during the Ganesh immersion procession in 2003. Interestingly, the State Government had issued orders despite the recommendations of the Director General of Police against withdrawal of the case.

The State Government on Tuesday issued the orders (GO 1428) directing the Hyderabad District Collector to instruct the Assistant Public Prosecutor concerned to `apply his mind’ and file a petition under Section 321 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, 1973 (Central Act 2 of 1974) for withdrawal of prosecution against the former Lok Sabha member.

Narendra and his supporters had a heated argument with the Task Force Team and other police officials during the Ganesh immersion procession near Rajesh Medical Hall on Hussaini Alam main road on October 10, 2003. Narendra along with a few others reportedly `assaulted’ and `obstructed’ the police officials following which t h e Hussaini Alam police arrested them. A case ( Cr .

No.124/2003) was registered against Narendra and his supporters under sections 147, 149, 186, 353 and 153-A of the Indian Penal Code, 1860 on the charges of punishment for rioting, unlawful assembly, obstructing public servant, assault or use of criminal force on public servant and promoting enemity between dif ferent groups.

Since then the case had been pending before the XIV Chief Metropolitan Magistrate, Hyderabad. Five years after the case was registered, Narendra urged the State Government to withdraw the case and made a representation on October 9, 2008.

He stated that a false case was framed against him to damage his reputation and requested for withdrawal of the case. The State Government directed the DGP to probe the issue and submit a report.

In his report submitted in February 2009, the DGP recommended not to withdraw the prosecution against Narendra. He also pointed out that the Assistant Public Prosecutor at the XIV Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate, Hyderabad has also expressed similar opinion. However, the State Government has decided to go against the recommendations of the DGP and ordered the Hyderabad District Collector to withdraw prosecution against Narendra.

In his 45 years of political career, about 38 cases were registered against Narendra. The only case pending against him was registered by the Hussainialam police and the State Government has decided to hook him off the case.

Speaking to Express, Narendra said that he was acquitted in all the cases pending against him as they were false. ``Even the human trafficking case was a false allegation levelled against me by TRS president K Chandrasekhar Rao. I have no connection with the incident,’’ he said.

Incidentally, Narendra, as TRS rebel MP voted in favour of the then UPA Government during the trust motion. He recently merged his Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS-N) party with the Congress.
