HYDERABAD: Praja Rajyam Party (PRP) president Chiranjeevi was arrested today when he participated in a dharna before the Chief Rationing Officer’s office protesting against the spiralling prices of the essential commodities.

Interestingly, this was the first political activity of the star-turned-politician after he launched his own outfit. Though, PRP contested the Assembly elections and Chiranjeevi hit the roads for election campaign, he never participated in any agitation highlighting the people’s problems.

A large number of PRP workers participated in the dharna before CRO’s office.

Chiranjeevi squatted on the road along with his workers and raised slogans against the skyrocketing prices of essential commodities.

Addressing the gathering, he alleged that the life of common man was becoming miserable because of the ever increasing prices of commodities.

He said that his party would intensify its agitation, if the Government failed to check the prices.

As Chiranjeevi and PRP activists staged the protest on the busy Paradise road, the traffic went haywire causing lot of inconvenience to the public.

Police arrested Chiranjeevi and other workers and shifted them to Gandhinagar police station. During the arrests some PRP activists were injuried in the melee. They were later shifted to a private hospital.

The PRP organised the agitation programme across the State today demanding the State Government take immediate steps to check spiralling prices of essential commodities.
